Within the scope of the BrainStation UX Certificate class, I took on the challenge to develop an app designed to reconnect students with their campus communities after the period of remote learning. The app aims to simplify registering for events and accessing academic information by offering a user-friendly platform. The designer prioritizes user experience and believes the app will enhance the academic experience by fostering a greater sense of community and support. By incorporating intuitive navigation, clear information architecture, and visually appealing design elements, I aimed to create an app that serves as a functional tool and evokes a sense of excitement and engagement. With a strong focus on user experience, my goal was to create a user-friendly platform that simplifies the process of event registration and provides easy access to academic information.
During my research, I identified common patterns and behaviours that determine the goals and frustrations of the users. During the interviews, I put an emphasis on the way to understand the underlying problems of these pain points. To help students reconnect with their campuses after in-person classes resume, I conducted surveys and interviews to develop an app idea. The app addresses difficulties navigating academic websites and the lack of a dedicated platform for students. The app offers a one-stop-shop for registering for events, meeting like-minded students, and accessing academic information quickly. It aims to enhance the educational experience by fostering a greater sense of community and support. I conducted semi-structured interviews with 3 friends and surveyed 12 people regarding their experience with networking and life on campus. To gain more perspective, my interviewees came from different programs and backgrounds.
In the context of the resurgence of in-person classes, a significant challenge has come to the forefront: students are encountering obstacles in effectively networking and establishing new connections. This challenge is underscored by several key pain points, including a lack of motivation to engage, uncertainty in navigating available support systems, the potential need for assistance, and a sense of social isolation. Insights garnered from user research shed light on the fact that prevailing academic websites tend to overwhelm users with complex and confusing information. Additionally, existing platforms lack a tailored approach, failing to cater specifically to the distinct needs and preferences of students.
A mobile app enabling students to seamlessly register for on and off-campus events, connect with like-minded peers across universities, and effortlessly access academic information.

Problem
The top-positioned burger menu lacked user-friendliness and intuitive functionality.
Solution
I integrated a bottom navigation bar, ensuring seamless access to all features. To enhance user experience, I discreetly refined the filter view atop the interface and introduced a search bar for specific event queries.
Navigating to the events tabs proved challenging due to accessibility issues and a lack of clarity.
In response to interview feedback, I included an event tab in the bottom navigation, streamlining the layout. The updated Event tab displays saved, upcoming, and past events, retaining the consistent pill design from the main page.
